History of Raimoon
Born around 1875, little is known about Raimoon. The wife of Goodar (the great grandfather of Rajendra and grandmother of Roopnarine), her name is mysterious as it suggests an Arabic origin, but from all accounts, Raimoon was a firm adherent of the Hindu faith. Some of her friends referred to her as Moonia. Raimoon came to Trinidad and Tobago from an unknown part of Uttar Pradesh as an indentured labourer around 1885 and settled in Churkoo Village Princes Town. She spoke very little English and bore two daughters. Raimoon died around 1952. Raimoon perhaps started the journey for the parents of Rajendra by purchasing a tenanted small grocery (parlour) for Roopnarine. This was the beginning of his fortunes in life. A tremendous debt is owed to Raimoon for the success of the generations that followed. Roopnarine spent many wonderful days with Raimoon and quotes her fondly for many of the lessons of life that she instilled in him. Her wisdom expressed in Bhojpuri sayings is still handed down to her ancestors. Raimoon was the paternal the great-grandmother of Rajendra Ramlogan, the founder of Traum House Lodge.
