LOPINOT

Lopinot is a picturesque village nestled in the foothills of Trinidad’s Northern Range, just north of Arouca. Steeped in history, it was established in the early 19th century by French Count Charles Joseph de Loppinot, who, after fleeing the Haitian Revolution, was granted 478 acres to develop a cocoa estate named La Reconnaissance. Today, the restored Lopinot House stands as a testament to this colonial past, serving as a museum that showcases Amerindian artifacts and the area’s rich heritage. The village is also renowned for its vibrant parang music, a tradition brought by Venezuelan settlers from the nearby Caura village. Visitors can explore the serene Lopinot Historical Complex, enjoy picnics by the river, and even venture into the nearby Lopinot Cave, home to the unique nocturnal Oilbirds. With its blend of cultural history and natural beauty, Lopinot offers a tranquil retreat that captures the essence of Trinidad’s diverse legacy. Lopinot Great House is approximately 20 kilometres from Traum House Lodge.
